Six Ways to Set Mentorship Goals

Setting goals can be an overwhelming task, but goal setting is one of the best ways to align yourself with future success. The PromoKitchen Mentorship Program recently launched a new “Recipe for Success” tool to make setting attainable goals easy for mentees and mentors in the program.

Whether you are new to goal setting or a seasoned pro, here are a few tips to help you get started: Brainstorm your goals---Write it all down!

Take 5-10 minutes to make a list of all of your short and long term goals. Write down any and everything that comes to mind.

Prioritize your goals---What matters most to you?

Talk with your mentor, a colleague, your boss, or a trusted friend to gain clarity around which goals deserve your focus. Highlight those goals from your brainstorm list.

Evaluate your goals for feasibility---Are the goals achievable?

Look at the highlighted goal list and ask yourself:

  • Is this a short term goal or a long term goal? Can I achieve this goal within my desired time frame?

  • Is this goal too ambitious based on the resources I have available at the moment? If so, what resources do I need to obtain to work towards this goal?

  • Is this goal ambitious enough? Will it push me to stretch in ways that are aligned with the success I hope to achieve?

Visualize what success looks like---Dream about your future self!

Visualization and imagining what our future self and success will look like helps to identify what we need to do to get to where we hope to be. Many entrepreneurs and athletes use this mental exercise to make conscious efforts toward achieving goals and managing the expectations of challenges along the way.

Develop a Timeline for your Goals---How much time are you willing and able to dedicate to your desired goals?

A defined and reasonable timeline is critical and will increase the likelihood of achieving the goals you set out to conquer. At Promokitchen, we suggest the S.M.A.R.T Goals approach and have included a template you can use in our “Recipe for Success” tool. This will help to map out your vision, goals, projects, and actions.

Monitor your progress --- And celebrate with others!

Your progress toward your short and long-term goals is worth celebrating. Talk with your mentor and colleagues about the work you are doing and recognize that each step is a win. Remember these are YOUR goals and YOU are in charge.  Think about how your work towards achieving your goals makes you feel.

Now, all that is left to do is GET STARTED! This is usually the biggest hurdle. If you are not yet engaged with the Promokitchen Mentorship program, now is a great time to get involved. We have over 50 PK Mentors available to help support you as you embark on your goal setting journey.
